His Excellency President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has announced that work will begin this year on three major sports infrastructure projects: a futsal complex, a netball complex, and an international-level surfing arena.
Emphasizing the importance of sports in national development, the President stated that these facilities will enhance training opportunities for athletes and contribute to the long-term growth of sports in the Maldives.
Netball Complex to be constructed in the empty space near Ghaazee School.
Futsal Complex to be developed in the Phase 2 Hiya Flats empty space.
Surfing Arena to be built in Male’s Raalhugandu area, meeting international standards. This comes as Maldivian surfers qualified for the 2026 Asian Games and achieved strong results in the 2024 Asian Surfing Championship held in the Maldives.
The government remains committed to expanding sports infrastructure to support local athletes and strengthen the Maldives’s presence on the international stage.
