Minister of Sports, Fitness and Recreation, Abdulla Rafiu, recently met with the badminton players of Revival Sports Club to honor their outstanding performances in international competitions.
The athletes secured a total of eight medals across two prestigious tournaments:
• Zambia International 2024: Held from November 14th to 17th in Lusaka, Zambia, this event attracted participants from 16 countries.
• Botswana International 2024: Conducted from November 21st to 24th in Gaborone, Botswana, this tournament featured competitive matches among top-tier players.
During the meeting, Minister Rafiu extended heartfelt congratulations to the players for their dedication and success, which have elevated the Maldives’ presence in the international badminton arena.
The discussion also addressed challenges faced by players and clubs, particularly concerning the current issues within the Badminton Association of Maldives (BAM). Minister Rafiu acknowledged these concerns and assured the athletes of the Ministry’s commitment to resolving them promptly, emphasizing the importance of a supportive environment for the development of badminton in the Maldives.
The Ministry remains dedicated to fostering the growth of sports and will continue to collaborate with all stakeholders to ensure the well-being and success of Maldivian athletes on both national and international stages.
